Collaboration is at the heart of StateRAMP’s mission to strengthen cybersecurity. This week, we’re highlighting Jason Oksenhendler, a founding member who serves on both the Steering Committee and the Standards & Technical Committee. Jason’s vision and expertise have been pivotal in helping StateRAMP grow and shape the future of cybersecurity for state and local governments. Here’s what he shared about his journey:
How long have you been involved with StateRAMP?
I’ve been part of StateRAMP since it began in 2020. It’s been incredible to witness its evolution from an ambitious idea to a program making a tangible impact on state and local government cybersecurity. Being involved from the start has given me a unique perspective on the dedication and collaboration driving every milestone we achieve.
Please provide a quote about your experience so far as a committee member.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of something as innovative and impactful as StateRAMP, watching it grow and achieve milestones that seemed like dreams just a few years ago.”
What motivated you to join your respective committee?
I’ve always been drawn to opportunities to make meaningful, lasting change. When I learned about the vision for StateRAMP—building a cybersecurity framework tailored for state and local governments—I knew I wanted to be part of it. The chance to help shape that vision and work with a talented team made joining an easy decision.
What benefits have you seen since joining your committee?
The Steering Committee brought this program from concept to reality, while the Standards & Technical Committee continues to foster innovation and growth. The program is constantly evolving, and the enthusiasm among members is truly inspiring. It’s a privilege to contribute to something so dynamic.
What advice would you share with someone interested in joining a committee with StateRAMP?
Join as soon as you can! You’ll collaborate with some of the brightest minds in cybersecurity, representing diverse perspectives and experiences. It’s an unmatched learning opportunity, and the StateRAMP team is exceptional to work with. I’m honored to be a founding member.
What has been the most memorable or rewarding moment you have experienced working with the committee so far?
One of the most memorable moments was earlier this year at the inaugural StateRAMP Cyber Summit. During a break, I stood with our Executive Director, Leah McGrath, and pointed out the activity—the booths, the conversations, the energy. We paused to take it all in. Seeing what we had built over five years come to life in such a meaningful way was extraordinary.
